ABOUT AUDIO OPERATOR PROGRAM:

Black Girl Beauty School of Careers welcomes students who are strong, self-motivated and fast paced learners who desire to learn, grow and help others. The Audio Operator Business is a recession free industry that’s wide open, with unlimited opportunities!

In an Audio Operator School (or a program focused on training audio operators), you’ll learn the practical skills needed to run sound equipment for live events, broadcasting, theater, or recording environments. It’s a bit more hands-on and operational compared to broader audio engineering programs.

Here’s what you’ll typically learn:

Core Skills for Audio Operators
Sound System Setup: Connecting microphones, speakers, mixers, monitors, and other gear

Signal Flow: Understanding how audio travels from input (like a mic) to output (like a speaker)

Mixer Operation: Adjusting levels, EQ, and routing on analog or digital mixing consoles

Live Sound Mixing: Balancing audio in real time during concerts, events, or services

Troubleshooting Audio Issues: Quickly identifying and fixing hums, feedback, dropouts, etc.

Types of Audio Work
Live Event Audio: Concerts, conferences, churches, and theater productions

Broadcast Audio: Running sound for radio, TV studios, or livestreams

Field Recording: Capturing sound on location for video shoots or news

Technical Knowledge
Microphone Types & Usage: Lavalier, shotgun, dynamic, condenser—when and how to use each

Cabling & Connectivity: XLR, TRS, patch bays, wireless systems

Basic Acoustics: Understanding how sound behaves in a space to improve clarity

Monitoring & Feedback Control: Preventing feedback and ensuring performers hear what they need

Professional Practice
Team Communication: Working with lighting techs, performers, directors, and video crews

Safety & Power Management: Ensuring safe setup and operation of audio gear

Workflow & Prep: Pre-show sound checks, line checks, and show calling
