ABOUT THE HAIR DESIGN PROGRAM

Black Girl Beauty School of Careers welcomes students who are strong, self-motivated and fast paced learners who desire to learn, grow, beautify and help others. The beauty business is a recession free industry that’s wide open, with unlimited opportunities!

At hair design school (also known as hairstyling school), you’ll learn a combination of practical skills, theory, and professionalism needed to work as a hairstylist or cosmetologist. Here’s a breakdown of what you can typically expect to learn:

1. Hair Cutting Techniques
Scissor and razor cutting
Men’s and women’s haircuts
Layering, texturizing, and thinning techniques

2. Hair Coloring
Color theory (warm vs. cool tones, levels, and undertones)
Permanent, semi-permanent, and temporary coloring
Highlights, balayage, ombré, root touch-ups
Color correction

3. Hair Styling
Blow drying, flat ironing, curling
Updos, braiding, and wedding/event hairstyles
Styling for different hair types and textures

4. Chemical Services
Perms and relaxing treatments
Keratin smoothing treatments
Understanding chemical safety and scalp health

5. Hair and Scalp Anatomy
Structure of the hair and scalp
Hair growth cycles
Identifying common scalp disorders
